I made this cake for my son's first birthday (Jan 4th).It's modeled after his two favorite toys- wooden blocks, and a wooden cricket on a string that moves it's legs up and down as you pull it along. The blocks are chocolate cake with fondant, the cricket is carved from a marble 1/8th sheet sliced in half and layered on top of itself, again, in fondant. The wheels are rice krispies treats. Alot of people asked why I didn't use donoughts for the wheels, but I believe doughnuts would have been too soft and would have fallen apart had I handled them too much.
I have lots more cake pictures on my Facebook page if you would like to add me as a friend. My email is mandyc721@msn.com.
I am making a wedding cake for a friend based off of this Martha Stewart cake:

But she wants edible pine cones. Any ideas? I have a mold but the pinecones are tiny. And it's probably too late to test out other chocolate molds because the wedding is on Jan 16th.
Thoughts?

Good morning everyone :>
My friend just rang to say she's getting married in 10 days (actually I knew that.. I'm going lol!) and ask if I would make a cupcake tower for the reception... of course I can.. I have everything I need right here.. except decoration inspiration :/
Any ideas?? Colour scheme is white and silver, and I really didn't want to do just swirls with silver cachous on top.. these are fun people, both musicians, and its a second marriage for both...
I was thinking maybe silver foil cases, white fondant with hand painted hearts or music notes???
If anyone has pictures or ideas, I would love to hear them, and of course, I will share after the day
Seek peace

Age: Not legal! :D *fist pump*
Location: New England, USA (Brr. Chilly, up here.)
Cupcake History: Dude - cupcakes are awesome. They've always been awesome. I'm also great at stealing said bake-goods without others noticing... not, when money's involved; I have parents for that. I'm good at baking so I obviously make cupcakes often.
Why do you like cupcakes?: Well; I hate pie. I really do; can't even stand the homemade stuff and let me tell you, my Mother could make cow's stomach appetizing - still won't touch the stuff. Cake is my absolute favorite dessert, and cupcakes are just a mini-cakes, anyway. Plus, Portal and Jim Gaffigan's Cake rant.
Anything to share?: Hmm... I hope to be known as "That crazy Cupcake chick" not get a hear attack from said fixation, and oh! Making cupcakes for a party in Spanish class - any simple ideas for added zest? Maybe the Spanish alphabet written on the cupcakes. It could be like the Periodic table (Oh yeah, my Dad sent me a picture of that - which was done by a user on here, and then I find this and realize that's where the picture came from! It was my desktop for a few months.)

Hey fellow cupcake lovers! My name is Emma, and I've posted here before. I love to make cupcakes, some of you may remember me as the girl who made the whole periodic table out of full sized cupcakes for her friend.
Anyway...
I have a mini-dilemma about cupcakes that I would love your opinions on!
I was the leader of my school's robotics team last year, a very big program and kind of a big deal to be in charge of. A I'm still close with some of the people on the team so I thought I would come to "Kick-Off" this Saturday with cupcakes!
I never built robots, I focused on the community outreach aspect of the program, including a program where we read to kids at a local bookstore. Unfortunately there are next to no books about robots, so we wrote our own!
Now... here is the real problem.
I'm going to make little colorful melted white chocolate (with food coloring added) figures of the 4 characters in the books, as well as perhaps some "399"s (the team number), "FIRST"s (the name of the organization), and perhaps the names of the characters to stand up on the cupcakes.
I can't decide if since the little figures are going to be very bright if I should just do white frosting (I'm planning on piping it and making sure it has a lot of volume, not just spreading it on flat) and stick the figure on for color, or if I should make all the cupcakes bright and colorful with my color scheme.
Each of the little robot characters is respectively orange, blue, yellow, and red, so that will be my color scheme. I would only use one color of frosting per cupcake, but there would be all 4 colors represented on separate cupcakes. I would of course put the figures of each color on different colored cupcakes, such as the yellow robot on a red cupcake, not on a yellow one.
What do you think I should do? Less is more? Or go all out?

I'm going to be trying fondant out for the second time for a friend's baby shower cake. The last time I used it I heard from some people that the layer of buttercream should be thin before applying the fondant, and other people said the buttercream should be pretty thick. Can anyone clear up the confusion for me? :)
Saturday night I posted here about Rufus's trip to the e-vet.
Rufus continues to bounce back. I am ashamed I didn't realize how Not Right he was last week -- I honestly thought it was the pain meds and being cooped up. No. My baby was still sick. Thank goodness for the long-term antibiotic his regular vet gave him last Monday. We went back in this morning to the regular vet and she gave him another shot and ( okay to skip this part if you're squeamish )

Does anyone have any good recommendations for cat toys that a single adult cat with zero interest in cat-nip can play with when left home alone?
Also, what sort of cat scratchers do you recommend?
I really want to construct a climbing wall on one of the walls of my living room - I've seen a couple examples, and I think they look really cool in addition to being a fun toy for a cat. They look relatively simple to install -- just covered shelves at different levels, so the cat can jump/rest/climb up there.

Over the past few weeks I've been trying to keep busy, so I've made a few things. The hardest thing I've made, and the only one I don't have a typed recipe for, is the tiny tiered chocolate cakes I made. They tasted great, but because they were so small they were really difficult to ice. I didn't think it was possible for something less than 15cm tall to fall over, but apparently it is.

♥ Your cupcake history: I love baking cupcakes, when I have the opportunity. Unfortunately, I don't find very many excuses to make several dozen little cakelets or find many people all at once willing to eat them.
♥ Why you like cupcakes: They're the perfect little package - small, easy to decorate, fun to eat, just the right amount of sweet, and you don't feel guilty eating just one.
♥ Anything to share?: Here are a trio of simple cupcakes for a picnic - red velvet with cream cheese icing, chocolate with white buttercream icing, and yellow with chocolate icing.

And here's an amusing link for anyone who might want their cupcakes a little haute couture: :)

I celebrated New Years with my boyfriend's family this year and I decided to try out a new recipe, Champagne Cupcakes!

They are champagne cupcakes, with a white chocolate and strawberry ganache frosting. They also have a filling of strawberry jam, which offset the frosting's sweetness, YUM.
Also, my second cousin's 10th birthday was a few days ago, and the theme of the party was army themed laser tag.

two layer, yellow cake, hand-piped buttercream frosting.

I have completed what was, in more ways than one, my biggest cake project ever. It was served to 200 people at a Trailer Park Troubadours concert on New Year’s Day. I’m thrilled to say it was a huge hit! I even got a shout-out from the stage when the band's frontman, Antsy McClain, was talking about their 'crazy friends'. "A crazy friend of ours made this amazing cake for us," and he pointed me out. Best part? That announcement came right before they played my favorite TPT song.
So, I guess you’d like to see pics now, huh? Maybe? (Please?)

The cake was based on this photo, which the band uses in their show. (They call it a Bed & Breakfast. :-) )
( The ride continues )
And now I really should lie down for a while, since I already have a couple of ideas for NEXT year's show ...
